Arrangement of the study

In the beginning of the semester every student chooses a topic of the research project. The topic may be taken from the list of topics offered by the department of mathematics.  Alternatively, the topic may be found  by the student him(her)self or suggested by a supervisor of a master thesis. Anyway, the topic must be essentially mathematical, i.e dealing with the toping must provide new knowledge in the field of mathematics.

Topics offered by the department of mathematics.

At every topic, offered by the department of mathematics, recommended literature is given. However, the student may use other materials for the research project too, incl. materials available in the internet. The offered topics are quite general. This means that the student may investigate the topic in a general level. In such case it is necessary to make him(her)self clear general concepts and relations and it is not necessary to go into details. Alternatively, the student may choose some part of the general topic. In such a case it is necessary to get acquainted with the details, too.

NB! For students that have weaker mathematical basic education, we propose the following choice of topics that is not very advanced, but is quite important in order to continue the study in the master program of engineering physics:

Additional topics offered by the department of mathematics.

Among the literature, e-books available at the library of TUT occur. They can be found in the EBL environment:

In order to login, it is necessary to create uni-ID username and password. They can be created in the Studies Information System of TUT.

In the second part of the semester, every student makes a presentation concerning his (her) topic. The duration of the presentation will be fixed during the semester. In case a student will not make the presentation, it is possible to get assessed on the basis of a written paper (min. 20 pages) that has to be defended.

Assessment criteria

The factors to be assessed are: find and work with a literature  opening a specific problem; analyse and review given problem on the scientific basis; compile and present a talk using contemporary means and possibilities of presentation; answer the questions.
